Stylistic functions of phraseological units in modern French

About The Book

The monograph is devoted to one of the topical issues of modern linguistics not yet fully developed in French linguistics. The first chapter is devoted to theoretical questions of phraseology and the use of phraseological units for stylistic purposes; the main features of phraseological units the scope and boundaries of French phraseology are defined. The tasks set in this chapter are generally successfully solved. In the second chapter the functional and stylistic differentiation of the phraseological units used in the works of du Gara is carried out. The author classifies them according to their functional and stylistic role into the following: neutral colloquial colloquial prosaic argotic and book-poetic phraseological units. This classification seems valuable in terms of a deeper description of the use of phraseological units for stylistic purposes. The third chapter which occupies the central place in the study contains many successful observations precise definitions and thoughtful generalizations. Significant is the differentiation of deformed phraseological units in which only the lexico-grammatical structure of the phraseological unit may change and modified phraseological units in which both the structure and the semantics are modified.
