Success and Failure in Implant

One of the key factors for the long-term success of oral implants is the maintenance of healthy tissues around them. This depends on a biological balance between inflammatory and regenerative processes ultimately with the latter as a dominant component. A cause-effect relationship between bacterial plaque accumulation and the development of inflammatory changes in the soft tissues surrounding oral implants has been shown in the recent past. If the inflammatory process exceeds the regenerative capacity implant failure may occur.
