Following the remarkable success of Uncle Toms Cabin Harriet Beecher Stowe made three tours to England and Europe which inspired the two-volume set Sunny Memories in Foreign Lands. Both volumes are a series of letters some written on the spot - some after the authors return home - of impressions as they arose of her most agreeable visits to England France Switzerland Germany and Belgium during the first half of the nineteenth century. Volume I contains delightful letters from Stowes travels throughout Liverpool Lancashire Dumbarton Castle Aberdeen Warwick Birmingham including an extensive assortment of letters from London. Best known for her pivotal novel Uncle Toms Cabin HARRIET BEECHER STOWE (1811-1896) will be remembered for helping frame the institution of slavery into a moral issue. Born in New England this daughter of a Congregationalist minister authored more than two-dozen books fiction and non-fiction.
