The study of climate change has highlighted the need to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions especially in industries such as cement and concrete responsible for 7% of total human-generated emissions. The search for sustainable alternatives has led to the exploration of biomineralization and the use of non-pathogenic microorganisms as bio-restoration agents in concrete structures. This process in which microorganisms synthesize minerals is classified into induced controlled and biologically influenced mineralization. A multidisciplinary approach is crucial to overcome the challenges and advance sustainable conservation.
