About The Book

Since antiquity ancient civilizations have used techniques to meet their needs. The Egyptians and Greeks harnessed the sun's heat. The Persians used windmills. Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. It runs out and has harmful effects on health and the environment (the inescapable carbon cycle a determining factor in G.E.S.). An energy source is renewable when it is inexhaustible over a human lifetime and can therefore be rapidly renewed. Renewable energies are known as clean energies. They represent an alternative to fossil fuels which are limited and responsible for a large proportion of greenhouse gas emissions. They have major long-term environmental advantages. But don't be fooled into thinking that they are miraculous. Renewable energies are not carbon-neutral and each has its drawbacks. What they do have in common is that they produce little or no polluting emissions thus helping to combat the greenhouse effect and global warming.
