Sustainable Energy Plan for a Small Island Economy

This work defines a sustainable energy plan toprovide the basis for renewable energy initiativesthat will increase energy security reduce negativeeconomic impacts and provide a cleaner environment.The hotel agriculture transportation constructionutility government and private sectors will playpivotal roles in achieving targets and will seesignificant gains. Government policies educationalcampaigns and financial incentives will be requiredto facilitate and encourage renewable energydevelopment and entrepreneurship. Utilization ofsolar energy energy conservation measures and theuse of efficient and alternative fuel vehicles by thecommercial/industrial and private sectors will becrucial in meeting targets. The utility company willbe charged with developing large scale renewableenergy applications and with improving efficiency ofthe electrical system. This document althoughdeveloped for St. Vincent and the Grenadines couldbe used by other small island economies as the basisfor developing renewable energy. This work may beuseful to governments organizations groupsentrepreneurs and students.
