Symbiotic Bacteria Isolated From Entomopathogenic Nematodes

About The Book

In this book we have reported the biological characterization of symbiotic bacteria of entomopathogenic nematodes. The symbiotic bacteria isolated form EPN strains were identified as Xenorhabdus stockiae (Steinernema siamkayai) and Photorhabdus luminescens (Heterorhabditis indica). The recovered isolates were evaluated for antibacterial activity against various pathogenic organisms; the results comparatively showed a wide range of antimicrobial activity against E. coli S. aureus S. typhi and K. pneumonia. When compared to X. stockiae the P. luminescens showed good antimicrobial activity in maximum concentration against K. pneumonia and S. aureus. The FT-IR analysis of ethyl acetate crude extract of Xenorhabdus showed the highest peak values of 2373.33 and 544.93 and Photorhabdus showed the presence of peak value of 2128.00 and 552.80 respectively indicating the functional group of P-H and Isocyanides stretching. The obtained results showed the possibility to get more novel compounds with antimicrobial potential from the symbiotic bacteria of entomopathogenic nematodes that may be used in bio insecticide formulation.
