Synopsis of Pediatric Emergency Care

A good pediatric emergency care can have a profound impact on survival and quality of life of children with acute life threatening illnesses. Many common illnesses present in the emergency and their timely and stepwise management can be really rewarding. Over the past few decades emergency care has grown as a specialty all over the developed world. It has taken longer for this to happen in developing countries. It is time that pediatric emergency care is accepted as a specialty in developing countries. We are happy that the publication of this book coincides with the launching of India’s first integrated specialty course in Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care at PGIMER Chandigarh.This book has its genesis and foundation in years of experience of two senior editors from different worlds – developed and developing. We felt that there is a need for text which can form the framework for guiding pediatric residents and pediatric-practitioners all over the world. The book has contributions from two diverse geographical regions and amalgamates the knowledge and wisdom of both. The topics in this book cover emergency needs of children in a comprehensive manner from resuscitation to evaluation and diagnostic approach to specific management of disease. The distinguished contributors fromUSA have covered the subjects in which they have greater experience such as trauma whereas diseases seen in tropics are covered by the Indian authors.
