In this work three new derivatives (ligands) of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and their metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized. The first ligand is Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(NN-dicarboxylicmethylidene)-N-2-methylene pyridyl]-L-ascorbic acid (LP) was synthesized by the reaction of Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(chloro(carboxylic)methylidene)]-L-ascorbicacid (starting material) with one mmole 2-Picolylamine. The second ligand is Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(thiol(carboxylic)methylidene)]-L-ascorbic acid (LS) was synthesized by the reaction of Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(chloro (carboxylic)methylidene)]-L-ascorbic with excess of sodium sulfide. The third ligand is Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(acetate(carboxylic) methylidene)]-L-ascorbic acid (LA) was performed by the reaction of Bis[OO-23;OO-56-(chloro (carboxylic)methylidene)]-L-ascorbic acid with two mmoles sodium acetate and The biological activities of these ligands LP LS LA and some of their complexes which are (Co2+ Cu2+ Cd2+) performed against two types of pathogenic bacteria are Staphylococcus aureus (Gram Positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram Negative) in a nutrient agar medium.
