Synthetic Studies on Selected Aromatic Polyketides

The book entitled Synthetic Studies on Selected Aromatic Polyketides consists of three parts. Part A describes a direct synthetic method to 14- dihydroxyanthraquinones an exploratory study towards anthracyclinones and a total synthesis of naturally occurring 14-dihydroxyanthraquinones ventinone A and ventinone B . Part B describes a total synthesis of an uncommon anthraquinone i.e. naturally occurring 910-dimethoxy-2-methyl-14- anthraquinone and Part C describes model studies towards the synthesis of chrymutasins and gilvocarcins that contain a benzo[d]naphtho[12-b] pyran-6-one as the core. The overall objective of the book is to give an idea of total synthesis of quinonoid natural products (e.g. anthracyclinones anthraquinones) by exploitation of the Hauser annulation. The key reactions investigated here are Hauser annulation and carbonyl-ene reaction. The syntheses of few cyclopropaanthraquinones have also been given along with their chemistry.
