Systemic candidiasis

About The Book

Invasive mycoses are opportunistic infections responsible for significant morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients (40%) which has led to a significant increase in the cost of hospital stays. Among these invasive mycoses systemic candidiasis is in the forefront as its frequency is on the increase to the benefit of other infections. Candida spp accounts for 70% to 90% of all invasive mycosis species.Systemic candidiasis occurs mainly in patients hospitalized on wards housing immunocompromised patients.Risk factors and a colonization index ?0.5 in high-risk wards especially intensive care and hematology/CAC wards are predictive of systemic candidiasis. Therapeutic management must be implemented to reduce mortality and avoid the complications associated with these infections.
