About The Book

In 1930 Rabindranath Tagore paid a short visit to Moscow and in 1931 published (in Bengali) ‘Russiar Chithi’. He wrote: “had I not come (to Russia) my life’s pilgrimage would have remained incomplete.... The other countries I have visited have never so wholly stirred my mind.” This volume consists of the seminar proceedings of a Conference organized in September 2011 by ICCR and the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre (Embassy of India Moscow) in collaboration with the Russian State University for the Humanities as a commemorative event during the Poet’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations. Held at the Russian State University for the Humanities the Conference brought together distinguished Indian and Russian academics who spoke on several aspects of Tagore’s Russian experience making this volume a valuable addition to the literature on the everlasting relevance of Rabindranath Tagore.
