<p>This book portrays the experiences and reflections of newspaper reporter Li Shoubao during an era of warlord conflicts as he travels to the front lines for interviews. Interwoven with this narrative is his romantic entanglement with two women: Han Xiaomei known by her nickname Taiping blossom and Zhenmei a barmaid. Both women develop deep affection for him yet torn between them he remains indecisive.
