Tales from Travancore

Fifteen short stories set in old Travancore of the fifties: The narratives range from an elopement which turned out to be a blessing in disguise friendship with an imaginary ghost tragic death of a poor girl to a brave old lady who tames a rogue elephant. There is a chase by a lone tusker and hunt for a wild boar. In one story the daughter of a village restaurant owner comes to his rescue when his business flounders employing creative marketing. In another a long-lost childhood girl friend is traced to an unknown town after many years. There is a beloved teacher who nurtures an immature student and a smart elder sister whose talent and competence makes the younger brother worship her. Love affection warmth and friendship without malice are the key factors.
