About The Book

This book is an attempt to discuss the duty centric approach in Bhagavad-Gita. While giving emphasis on the subjective or personal value of action Upanisadic teachings do not ignore the objective aspect of ethics which deals with social welfare. Bhagavad-Gita guides us to have control over the lust desire ego anger attachment which are the impediments or obstacles in the path towards self-realisation. Today life seems to be moving mechanically according to preordained time-table that defiles family-ties personal professional relations social and cultural bonds. As a result the peace within and without is affected. Bhagavad-Gita advises us that the only way to achieve peace at the individual and social level is by restoring dignity to man as a human being. The teachings of Bhagavad-Gita are the guiding force for inculcating the value of public good in the modern era. The answer to today’s social and cultural problems lies in integrating the human fold society. Thus inculcation of free spirit of universal brotherhood is an imperative or the ‘dharma’ for each one of us to preserve and promote peace and harmony in the society. One more major problem that the mankind is facing today is in the form of environmental hazards which are endangering the very existence of life on earth. Bhagvad-Gita’s moral ideals are of profound practical importance and relevance in the present times. Many noble and useful moral ideals are much needed in the present age which is on the brink of moral crisis. The great work can play a pivotal part not only in moral reconstruction of the present generation but in the all-round (holistic) moral social and ecological wellbeing of humanity. This is quite natural because the Gita gives us a sublime and synthetic and integral philosophy of life a gospel of non-attached action which is the need of the hour.
