Along the way he discovers a previously unknown (and somewhat misplaced) civilization in the swampy Mississippi Delta of the 1700s. As he travels from modern day to the pre-Revolutionary War Deep South it becomes evident to John that his unique gift for traveling back in time is waning and becoming dangerous. Hardin writes about his travels in his journals which are edited by his loyal cousin Richie Hardin.</p>
