A new resource for genealogist and historians. This never-before-published journal was written 1844-1847 by Amos Hitchcock a colporteur for the American Tract Society. While performing his duties he traveled from his home in Brimfield Massachusetts to distribute literature in East Tennessee. He listed his living and business expenses recorded names of family and acquaintances and provided a social commentary of life in East Tennessee. Transcribed and arranged in chronological order Tennessee Travels is a new source for historical and genealogical research. Inclusion of actual photocopies of the original journal allows the reader to use this authentic primary resource to verify the original language and to have the pleasure of reading Mr. Hitchcock's mid-19th century script.
