The Adventures of Libby the Leaping Learner

<p>I am Sharon Blake. I teach third grade at Bedford Elementary School in the beautiful mountains of Virginia. At the beginning of the 2010 school year I wanted to create a writing project that would challenge my student's writing skills and allow them to use their imaginations. I introduced the class to <i>Libby</i> a stuffed frog with personality. I explained to the class that <i>Libby</i> would be going home with each one of them to share in their weekend adventures. Each student was to write an entry in <i>Libby's</i> journal describing their adventures together.</p> <p>As the journal entries began to develop <i>Libby</i> came alive. Each Monday a student brought her back and shared a brand new adventure with the class. <i>Libby</i> became a true member of our class and the students looked forward to their weekend with her. I was amazed at the work that came back each Monday. As I witnessed other students reading <i>Libby's Journal</i> I saw my student's faces glow with pride.</p> <p>My students brought <i>Libby</i> to life. This book is a collection of her adventures. She has become a unique character with a loving personality who will live in my heart forever. I fell in love with <i>Libby</i> and I know you will too.</p> <p>I hope you enjoy reading about her adventures as much as my students enjoyed writing about them. <i>Libby</i> has developed into an intriguing character. Who knows what future adventures await <i>Libby</i>...wait and see.</p>
