The Aeneid is an epic poem written by the Roman poet Virgil. It tells the legendary story of Aeneas a Trojan hero who flees the burning city of Troy and embarks on a journey to find a new homeland. Along the way he faces numerous trials and challenges including encounters with gods and mythical creatures. The poem explores themes of destiny duty love and the founding of Rome. Virgil composed The Aeneid during the reign of Emperor Augustus and it is considered one of the greatest works of Latin literature.
