The American Crisis

<p><strong><em>The American Crisis</em></strong> is a series of pamphlets by <strong>Thomas Paine</strong> written during the American Revolutionary War (beginning in 1776). Paine urges American colonists to persevere in their fight for independence despite hardship and despair. He argues that the struggle against British rule is a moral necessity contrasting the ease of submission with the honor and freedom earned through resistance. Famous for the line <em>These are the times that try men's souls</em> the work seeks to inspire courage unity and renewed commitment to liberty in a moment of crisis.</p><p></p><p></p>
