About The Book

Modern Taoism – The ancient way to a good life today! This book was written to benefit those who know little about Taoism and want to learn more. And it was specially written to benefit those who want to learn how to use Modern Taoism to improve their lives today—because it would be a better world if more people did. Think of it as Taoism 101 for modern times but more pleasant to read than a textbook! The Ancient Wisdom of Tao broadly covers the entire subject of Classical Taoism, including its history, the Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu, and a variety of selected stories from the books of Chuang Tzu and Lieh Tzu—all written to be accurate of the message but easy to understand. And it purposely omits the magic and ritual of the Religious Taoism of later centuries. The section on Modern Taoism was created by sorting out topics in the writings of the three ancient Taoist sages by subject and exploring each, by blending in a little of today's science where applicable, and by better defining a few key terms. By that means, the ancient wisdom of Tao transforms to also become a modern wisdom of Tao, as valuable for us in understanding our lives today as it was for the people living in the Yellow River Valley more than two thousand years ago.Reading this book will help you understand yourself and your part in the world around you (the Tao) much more realistically, and because of it, you are likely to find yourself happier and more effective at everything you decide thereafter to do. If that might help you have a better life, buy a copy of The Ancient Wisdom of Tao today and read and learn from it as soon as you get the chance!About the AuthorJeffrey Pine first became a student of Taoism many years ago as a side-effect of his involvement with the martial arts. He has a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado and an M.B.A. in International Marketing from the prestigious Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management (now a part of Arizona State University). Most of his professional career revolved around various aspects of Real Estate, but he is now retired and lives high in the Colorado Rockies.Mr. Pine has always been a bit of a wanderer. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Peace Corps and taught in the Shah’s Iran for 2 years, one in a small tribal village without electricity or piped water. He had already traveled around the world by the time he was 30. To date, he has visited 68 different countries (including parts of China) on four continents and still visits unfamiliar regions of the world whenever he gets a chance.
