The Arab Spring or Why the EU Lacks Unity in Foreign Policy

About The Book

The study deals with the problem of why EU member states tend to fail to speak with one voice on international issues. The so called Arab Spring among other security-related affairs is one of the most recent examples demonstrating the difficulties of establishing a unanimous response from the EU. The differentiated positions of Member States prevents them from adopting a true European foreign policy. This has a flow on effect as the lack of a coordinated policy undermines the credibility and influence of the European Union in world politics. On the example of the Arab Spring the author demonstrates that vast corporate interests most commonly stop the likes of France Italy Germany and the UK acting unanimously.
