The Arabian Nights is a collection of folk tales that were compiled during the Golden age of Persian empire. The work was collected over many centuries by various authors translators and scholars across West central and South Asia and North Africa. The work was first written in Arabic language. Over the passage of centuries various translators and scholars have worked in collaboration to produce the modern version of the tales in twenty-first century. If one reads carefully the tales trace their roots back to Persian Mesopotamian and Egyptian folklore. Some tales also trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic Greek Indian Jewish and Turkish folklore and literature. These tales are narrated by sharahzad for about one thousand and one nights in an attempt to entertain king shahriyar and keep herself alive.
