About The Book

The Arabian Nights: Thousand Nights and a Night is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. The stories are primarily told by Scheherazade a legendary queen and storyteller who saves her own life by telling her husband King Shahryar a new tale every night for one thousand and one nights. Volume VI of Richard F. Burtons translation of The Arabian Nights contains several popular tales including The Adventures of Harun al-Rashid The Enchanted Horse and The Young King of the Black Isles. The Adventures of Harun al-Rashid follows the escapades of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid and his loyal vizier Jafar. The two men disguise themselves as commoners and wander the streets of Baghdad getting into all sorts of trouble and experiencing the lives of their subjects firsthand. In The Enchanted Horse a young man named Prince Ahmed discovers a magical horse that can fly and takes him on a series of adventures across the world. Along the way he meets a beautiful princess whom he falls in love with and must outwit her wicked father in order to win her hand in marriage.
