The Art of Being Bored A Comedy in Three Acts

The plot follows the interactions between a group of upper-class characters most notably a husband and wife as they navigate the tensions and monotony of their everyday lives. The husband in particular becomes increasingly frustrated by his wife’s attempts to break free from her boredom through trivial distractions. However his own attempts at alleviating the dullness of his existence lead to further comedic misunderstandings and absurdities. Pailleron’s play uses satire to comment on the ennui of bourgeois society the emptiness of routine and the futile attempts people make to find meaning in their lives.
