About The Book

The story follows the life of the protagonist Clanton an African American man who is taken away from his family and placed on an auction block where he is sold into slavery. The novel depicts the harsh realities of this era and the struggles faced by Clanton as he seeks justice and freedom. Rex Beach was a popular author during his time and often wrote adventure and romance novels set in various locations. The Auction Block however is distinct from much of his other work as it tackles serious social issues and paints a powerful picture of the racial injustices of the American South. If you are interested in literature that addresses issues of racial inequality and social justice during the early 20th century The Auction Block is a significant and thought-provoking work in that regard. It serves as a historical and literary document that sheds light on the struggles faced by African Americans in the United States.
