Autobiography as a form of art has not gained enough importance.Whatever literature on autobiographies is available in a library it is usually found under the heading biography. In an autobiography the writer’s expression of his personality in a candid fashion is usually taken in the right spirit. Moreover elements like candidness objectivity lucidity humility etc. are appreciated in an autobiography. The following features are mostly searched in an autobiography. Truth should be its hallmark Courage and frankness are its essential featurs. He should be objective in dealing with contemporary events and personalities. the author should not be always verbose in his description or narration. Mostly the writers like Jawaharlal Nehru Mahatma Gandhi are known for their autobiographical works.
