About The Book

Hector Berlioz composed the music for Benvenuto Cellini a semi serif drama in two acts with lyrics by Léon de Wailly and Henri Auguste Barbier. On September 10 1838 the Académie Royale de Musique's Salle Le Peletier hosted the world premiere of Berlioz's first drama. Although the plot's elements are mostly made up the novel is inspired by the diaries of Florentine artist Benvenuto Cellini.
