About The Book
Description
Author
The Epic of Gilgamesh is an ancient Mesopotamian epic poem that recounts the adventures of the legendary king Gilgamesh. It includes a famous flood narrative that bears similarities to the biblical story of Noahs Ark. The poem was written in cuneiform script on clay tablets and discovered in the 19th century in the ruins of Nineveh. On the other hand E. A. Wallis Budge was a prominent British Egyptologist and Assyriologist who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He made significant contributions to the study and translation of ancient texts particularly those from Egypt and Mesopotamia. However Budges works primarily focused on ancient Egyptian literature and religious texts rather than Babylonian or Mesopotamian ones. So while Budges works are valuable resources for understanding ancient civilizations he did not specifically translate or study the Babylonian story of the Deluge or the Epic of Gilgamesh. Scholarly translations of the Epic of Gilgamesh have been done by various experts including Andrew George Stephanie Dalley and Benjamin Foster among others.
