About The Book

During World War ll the United States sent many military units to the UK to work alongside our own armed forces. One such unit was the 1511th Quartermaster Truck regiment a unit comprising of mainly Black GIs that was stationed at Adams Hall Camp in Bamber Bridge in Lancashire in 1943.

Whilst the locals welcomed the Black troops the Military Police were mainly white and the relationship between the two contingents was fraught because of racism. What ensued was what became known as the Battle of Bamber Bridge.

Derek Rogerson recounts the tale of the Battle adding in some possible conversations as well as the known facts bringing this battle back to life.
