The Bible Douay-Rheims Book 17: Tobias

The story begins with Tobit who despite his piety and good deeds finds himself blinded and living in despair in Nineveh. Meanwhile in a different location a young woman named Sarah suffers from a series of misfortunes including the deaths of her seven husbands all killed by a demon named Asmodeus. In a moment of desperation Tobit prays for death while Sarah also prays for deliverance from her suffering. God hears their prayers and sends the angel Raphael to assist them. Raphael guides Tobias Tobit’s son on a journey to retrieve money that Tobit had left in Media. Along the way Tobias is instructed to marry Sarah and with Raphael''s help he successfully drives away the demon tormenting her. The narrative culminates in Tobias returning home with the money and healing his father’s blindness through the use of fish gall showcasing God''s care and intervention in their lives.
