The Bible Douay-Rheims Book 52: Romans
English

About The Book

The letter begins with an introduction in which Paul expresses his desire to visit the Roman Christians and outlines the key theme of the epistle: salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. He argues that both Jews and Gentiles are under the power of sin and no one can achieve righteousness through the law alone. Paul emphasizes that righteousness comes from God and is given through faith in Jesus Christ a concept known as justification by faith. In the central chapters Paul explains the role of Jesus'' sacrificial death and resurrection in God''s plan for salvation. He emphasizes that believers are freed from the condemnation of sin through Christ and are called to live in the newness of life. Paul also discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in empowering believers to overcome sin and live in accordance with God’s will. Chapters 9-11 deal with the relationship between Israel and the Church highlighting God''s faithfulness to His promises and the inclusion of the Gentiles in salvation. The latter part of Romans focuses on practical Christian living. Paul encourages believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices to renew their minds and to live in harmony with one another. He addresses ethical issues such as love humility and the importance of obeying civil authorities. The epistle concludes with personal greetings and a doxology praising God''s wisdom and grace.
