Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the 1888 historical and love story The Black Arrow: A Tale of the Two Roses. The book is set during King Henry VI's reign during the Wars of the Roses (1455–1487). Throughout the book Richard Shelton's journey to knighthood rescue of his lady Joanna Sedley and pursuit of justice for his father's death Sir Harry Shelton are all described. A black arrow is the primary weapon and identification mark of outlaws in Tunstall Forest.
