Plague sweeps through France the Black Death exacerbating the already considerable hardships of a people brought low by defeats against the English and the roving bands of Routiers who render the countryside entirely lawless. The book is the sequel to 'The Alchemist's Daughter' set in fourteenth century France at the beginnings of the Hundred Year's War.
