In 1923 Margaret Kyler a forty-year-old spinster fell in love with Milan Hall the richest man in town. Milan a recent widower courted Margaret in spite of his two daughters objections. After two years of passionate devotion his ardor cooled and he suddenly married another woman. The mores at that time were Victorian and Margaret was looked upon as damaged goods. Devastated she sued Milan for breach of promise and the trial made national headlines.
