About The Book

The Casque's Lark follows the story of Victoria a Gallic woman of noble birth who finds herself caught up in the chaos of the Frankish invasion of Gaul. As the Franks led by their king Clovis conquer and subjugate the territories of Gaul Victoria's life is irrevocably changed. Her husband a Gallic chieftain is killed in battle and Victoria is forced to flee with her young son. Determined to seek revenge against the Franks for the death of her husband and the destruction of her homeland Victoria joins the resistance movement against Clovis and his forces. Along the way she forms alliances with other Gallic tribes and leaders who are also fighting to preserve their way of life against Frankish domination. As Victoria becomes more deeply involved in the struggle against the Franks she finds herself torn between her desire for revenge and her responsibilities as a mother. Her journey takes her across the war-torn landscape of Gaul where she must confront the brutality of war and the complexities of loyalty and sacrifice.
