The Cathedral

<p>In this introspective novel Huysmans explores the spiritual and architectural grandeur of Chartres Cathedral using it as a metaphor for the protagonist's own religious journey. Following Durtal the same character from his earlier work <em>En Route</em> the novel delves deeply into Catholic symbolism medieval art and mysticism. Through poetic prose Huysmans examines themes of faith beauty and the contrast between the sacred and the profane reflecting his own conversion to Catholicism.</p><p><br></p>
