This book is based on theoretical analysis and reflections on the EU contemporary issues concerning asylum seekers and refugees’ impact on social economy legal and political aspects across the Member States. Following the corona virus pandemic in 2020 it was considered imperative that the challenges faced by trapped asylum seekers including illegal/irregular migrants in the EU refugee camps were brought into light. As in times of crisis it is not unusual for the disadvantaged populations to be forgotten and left behind or be blamed for the consequences of the perceived threat. In most EU Member States since the claimed EU refugee crisis in 2015 racism xenophobia and discrimination against minorities have tremendously increased. Consequently the efforts to harmonise the Common European Asylum System is undermined by the lack of cooperation and political will among Member States. This book serves as a reminder that the EU is founded under the principles and values of respect for human rights dignity and the rule of law democracy freedom and equality for all populations including the respect for the rights of minorities.
