When we read a quote from Plato or Confucius, we seldom remember that we are reading the English-translated version. We do not worry about the lost meaning during translation or parts where the translator inadvertently brought in his own biases. This work is intended to take Thirukkural to non-native speakers. The translators have kept in mind the mindset of target language readers' and have managed to strike a fine balance between the two languages and the two cultures. The translators have conscioulsly ensured that this translation has the same effect as the original author intented, thereby ensuring that the reader realises and relishes the value of the work.
