About The Book

Non-alcoholic steatopathy of the liver (NAFLD) is strongly associated with different components of the metabolic syndrome including type 2 diabetes. The aim of our study is to determine the epidemio-clinical causality of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in 38 type 2 diabetic patients at the University Clinics of Kinshasa and the general characteristics. The prevalence of non-alcoholic steatopathy in our study population is 89.5% it represents the second most frequent cause of hepatic steatosis: 47.1% of cases while in 52.6% of cases steatosis is related to alcoholism.Diabetic patients with NAFLD are more male with a mean age of 58.2 years and mostly obese (60.5%) and married with a higher or university education. The search for hepatic steatosis in type 2 diabetic patients should be systematic because of its high prevalence in this population its treatment is based essentially on hygienic-dietetic rules several studies are underway to evaluate different therapeutics on NAFLD.
