The Gospel of Mark begins with the writer telling readers that Jesus came proclaiming the Kingdom of God at the launch of his ministry in Galilee. Mark gives his readers the exact wording of Jesus' mission statement in Mark 1:15 which are words that Jesus would have spoken almost four decades prior to Mark's time of writing. The statement is both apocalyptic and anachronistic with a Christian theme to 'repent and believe in the Gospel'. Whether the statement harkens back to the teaching of the historical Jesus or was constructed by writers from the Jerusalem Church is the subject of this book which is the first book in a series on the topic of Mark's origin.
