<p>St. Macarius gives many illustrations to highlight our Lord's desire for our salvation and his many ways of reaching out to us. These are based fully on his deep knowledge and personal experience of the Bible which completely shaped the way he lived. His thoughts are very wide ranging fit to be adopted by other cultures and are still exceptionally relevant for us in this modern age. However the language of the homilies has been a serious barrier even although translations have been available. This book you have in your hands is not a direct or full translation of Macarius' teaching but rather an abridgement and it contains only twenty five of his fifty homilies. All the paragraphs have been rewritten in a more modern style with gender inclusiveness and culture neutrality. </p>
