The construction of speeches on medicinal marijuana

Since 2014 the debate on the medicinal use of marijuana has gained a new factor that was important to increase controversy and to further relativize the negative discourses that persist on marijuana: cannabidiol (CBD). This active ingredient of Cannabis sativa has been used in Brazil as a remedy for the treatment of serious chronic diseases.This study aims to analyze the constitution of discourses on medicinal marijuana in the Brazilian media in recent years with a view to identifying how these discourses authorize or disallow the use of the drug.
