The book is about Gadaa System - a system with long standing modern Democratic principles of governance of Oromo People. Guji Oromos are a predominant population of large Oromo people that lives in the southern part of Ethiopia. They consider the formal court structure as exotic. To them Gadaa institutions has penetrated the whole aspect of their life and determine their social legal political and cultural life in many respects. There are various institutions existing among Guji Oromos that has contributed enormously by amicably settling disputes of various nature. This institutions are informal means of justice. However owing to the absence of due attention from government side the legal system in genaral and Guji oromos in particular has forfeited the advantage the system would produce had it been institutionalized within governments legal framework.
