The Cortex Unit

Numb. I awaken to blinding light no memory no feeling—only fragmented thoughts. I hear a gasp—mine. I breathe barely. Then sudden movement like life forcing its way back in. My eyes fly open; my body jolts. I'm on a cold metal stretcher covered in a white cloth surrounded by others. A tag on my toe bears a name—my name? But I can’t remember it. Panic rises. Where am I? Who am I? Everything feels surreal like life and death are blurring into one.
