The Cossacks

About The Book

He is considered one of the greatest novelists in any language in all of human history but many of Leo Tolstoys works remain obscure today. This short novel first published in 1862 gives us Dmitiri Olenin: reluctant soldier and neer-do-well aristocrat who falls in love with a peasant Cossack girl. Semi-autobiographical and considered by some to be among the most beautiful prose in the original Russian it is essential reading for fans and students of Tolstoys work. Russian writer COUNT LEV (LEO) NIKOLAYEVICH TOLSTOY (1828-1910) is best known for his novels War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1877).
