The Cultural Landscape of Bharati Mukherjee: From Expatriation to Immigration

Conflict is the law of the nature of living beings whether rational or irrational. It has multifaceted dimensions. It is entirely a mental affair and ultimately leads to existential world. Conflict of culture is significantly precipated in human mind and Diasporas feel marooned in foreign lands in search of identity. This is a predominant theme of the works of migration writers. The National Book Critics Circle award winner Bharati Mukherjee is a post-colonial immigrant migration writer whose writings are fabulously rich in the conflict of culture are discussed at length in this book.. Bharati Mukherjee’s creative odyssey spans a period of about three decades which witnessed the publication of eight novels and two story-collections besides other non fictional writings. The book attempts to sum up the observations inferences and conclusions which are based on the analysis of the novels and short stories made in the chapters of the study. He Specializes in Indian English fiction and has done his research on the fiction of Jhumpa Lahiri and Bharati Mukherjee.
