The de-dollarization of the Congolese economy: challenges and prospects

The de-dollarization of the economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a complex and crucial subject that merits in-depth analysis. In the DRC as in many other developing countries the predominant use of the US dollar is partly a consequence of the country's economic monetary and political instability. This book examines the economic financial institutional and social factors influencing this process. It also seeks to elucidate the fundamental reasons behind the process of combating the dollarization of the Congolese economy and assesses the measures taken by the authorities over almost three decades.To promote the de-dollarization of the Congolese economy it is essential to strengthen confidence in the national currency. This requires a prudent monetary policy greater macroeconomic stability and effective economic governance. In addition improving access to formal financial services and promoting financial inclusion can encourage the use of the national currency for everyday transactions.
