The Dionysian Artificers

Da Costa begins by discussing the history of the Dionysian architects. He traces their origins to the ancient Greeks who believed that Dionysus was the god of wine fertility and theater. The Dionysian architects were said to have been skilled in the construction of temples and other buildings and they were also said to have been initiated into the mysteries of Dionysus. Da Costa then goes on to discuss the similarities between Freemasonry and the Dionysian mysteries. He notes that both Freemasonry and the Dionysian mysteries have secret initiation rituals and that both emphasize the importance of morality and charity. He also notes that both Freemasonry and the Dionysian mysteries use symbols to represent spiritual truths. Da Costa concludes by arguing that modern Freemasonry is a direct descendant of the Dionysian mysteries. He believes that the Dionysian architects were the original Freemasons and that they passed their secrets down to later generations.
