Education is essential to society while also being adaptable to time and social space. The use of environmental resources throughout history has had a major impact on societies compelling education to focus on environmental issues. In Brazil in particular this theme began in the late 1990s and still has a long and essential road ahead in terms of educating environmentally committed and aware citizens. This work examines Brazilian environmental education since Law 9795/99 and points to advances and perspectives on the topic. The pluralistic approach to education and the environment has a historical and legal basis that sets this work apart contributing in a simple way to the training of those who discuss education and fight for the preservation of planet Earth for themselves and future generations as provided for in the 1988 constitution.
